The Client’s Vision: An Elegant and Timeless Bedroom
Our client approached us with a desire to revamp their small oddly shaped room and transform it from a baby’s nursery to a comfortable and functional guest space. They were particularly drawn to rich patterns, deep colours, and a sense of opulence. House of Hackney’s bold and evocative designs became the perfect foundation for this transformation.
Step One: Understanding the Space and Style
As with all our projects, we started with an in-depth consultation to understand the client’s needs, preferences, and lifestyle. Through our detailed questionnaire, we identified their love for dramatic prints and classic British style with a modern twist. We also considered the architectural details of the room, such as high ceilings and period features, to ensure the design would enhance the space rather than overpower it.
Step Two: Designing the Concept
Once we established the direction, we created a series of design boards to visualise the space. After a visit to the House of Hackney Showroom the House of Hackney wallpaper became the focal point of the room, along with bespoke cabinetry built around the king size bed. Its intricate moulding added depth and character. To complement this, we selected coordinating House of Hackney fabric for the roman blinds and soft furnishings, creating a cohesive and layered look.
Key selections included:
- Wallpaper: House of Hackney’s ‘Flora Fantasia’ – An imaginary floral wonderland which unfurls across the design, painted in glorious watercolours against an Ecru backdrop.
- Fabric: Luxurious velvet in deep jewel tones for the headboard by Sweet Pea and Willow with bespoke cushions, reinforcing the opulent aesthetic.
- Blinds: in the animal print Wild Card, add a touch of fun to the windows , made by Cathy Van Abbe.
- Joinery: Bespoke cabinetry by Fullerton Joinery Co.
- Wardrobe Moulding: A traditional moulding sourced at The Victorian Emporium.
Step Three: Curating the Perfect Pieces
With the design direction set, we embarked on a curated shopping experience, selecting pieces that would bring the concept to life.
- Light switches: Corston
- Bed: Sweet Pea and Willow
- Bedding: Anthropologie UK
- Art: King & McGaw
- Vintage Accessories: Carefully chosen pieces, including Antiques Suitcases sourced from Chiswick Auction House, Desk and Lighting from Rocket St George and Wooden Luggage Rack from The Stripes Company.
Step Four: Installation and Final Touches
Once all elements were in place, we meticulously styled the bedroom, ensuring that every detail contributed to the overall aesthetic. The result was a breathtaking transformation – a bedroom that felt rich in character, visually striking, and deeply personal to the client.
