Islington Project

My clients, a young couple settling into their first home in a prime Islington location just off Upper Street, wanted a stylish, contemporary, and dynamic living space. Their brief included designing a new kitchen and providing guidance on their bathroom renovation. With plans to welcome a puppy and eventually start a family, we thoughtfully incorporated these considerations into the design, ensuring durability and practicality in material selection.

Their brief was to include an exciting colour palette and to lean towards a more masculine scheme, their instruction was to make the space look as if it had been designed, to be memorable.

With a limited footprint and an open-plan layout, defining distinct zones was key. We achieved this through strategic lighting and a carefully planned kitchen layout that maximised storage without compromising on style. By incorporating a well-proportioned island, we created a multifunctional space—perfect for both cooking and entertaining.

Working with wooden floor specialists Ted Todd we selected a beautiful, engineered hardwood floor. With a 25-year guarantee, engineered wooden floors are popular because of its versatility and durability.

The colour scheme for this project was always going to be bold—an adventurous choice that our clients embraced with enthusiasm. Working with paint specialists Paint & Paper Library, we curated a striking combination: deep Squid Ink blue wall punctuated by a bold Dark Orange stripe wrapping around the room. To ensure precision, we meticulously planned the stripe’s width and placement in 3D, giving our clients a clear vision before bringing the design to life. Not for the faint-hearted, but undeniably impactful.

My clients were on a budget, most of which was spent on the new fitted kitchen and bathroom, leaving a small amount for the furniture. Luckily, Ixia London was able to secure some great trade discounts, and the room came together nicely.
