Kids Rooms Project

At Ixia London, we love creating spaces tailored for children—whether it’s a playroom, art room, bedroom, or family sitting room. Featured here are two rooms from the same home: one designed for two sisters with a desire for “fun” bunk beds, and another for a teenage boy.

Practicality was key in the girls’ room, ensuring ample storage and an accessible bathroom suited to their needs. This led to thoughtful design choices, including a smaller bath, a lowered vanity unit (by removing its legs), and wall mirrors positioned at a child-friendly height.

Designing children’s rooms requires careful planning to ensure longevity, as their tastes and needs evolve over time.

Striking a balance between a child’s playful requests and a parent’s desire for a timeless design is key. While some children may want bold primary colors or themed décor, incorporating these elements in a way that remains adaptable is crucial.

In the girls' room, the focus was on creative, lasting design choices. Playful half-moon windows, colourful bunk bed stairs, and vibrant fabrics added personality, while a soft pink carried through to the bathroom floor tiles and basin. These details satisfied the children’s love of colour while keeping the overall scheme refined and enduring.

Fitted joinery was a key focus in both children’s rooms. For the girls, double wardrobes with curved rattan doors echoed the (double) bunk beds, with interiors designed for independence—low rails, adjustable hanging space, and drawers for smaller items.

In the boy’s room, a custom shelving unit showcased trophies, books, and LEGO creations, with integrated LED lighting for a playful touch. A central space was wired for a TV and power socket, ready for when he was deemed old enough for one in his room.

The carpet, sourced from Urbane Living, was chosen for its deep, luxurious pile—perfect for little ones to play on in comfort. A protective spray was applied to guard against inevitable spills.

For the flooring, we selected Puzzle tiles from Domus, featuring bold geometric patterns. Careful planning ensured seamless continuity in the design. Both the boy’s and girls’ rooms used the same playful tile in different colourways, creating a cohesive yet distinctive look.

Repetition of the core colours across the two rooms included Paint & Paper Library a rich traditional yellow. In the boys' room this was paired with a very dark blue Paint and Paper Library and the Great Wave mural by wallpaper specialists: Hovia
